What Can I Do?
Adopt-a-Drain
Residents have the opportunity to adopt a drain near their home. Adopting a drain and helping to keep it clear of debris ensures that it can function properly. Adopt a drain near you here: Adopt-a-Drain - Vermont
Plant a Rain Garden
Planting a rain garden can help water pool in specific areas, allowing it to be cleaned by the plants and soil microbes in the garden. These gardens, comprised of specific plants and stones, can mitigate the harmful chemicals in the stormwater. Read or download the Vermont Rain Garden Manual here: Rain Garden Manual | Lake Champlain Sea Grant
Build a Rain Barrel
Collecting rainwater in a rain barrel helps to keep stormwater off impervious surfaces. Once collected, you can use the water to water your garden. This process allows the rain to be absorbed and cleaned by the soil after it is used to water plants instead of accumulating on impervious surfaces. Instructions to build your own rain barrel can be found here: Build-A-Rain-Barrel-Instructions.pdf
