PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT

Town Engineer

$102,000-$116,000 with an Excellent Benefits Package

The Town of Colchester is seeking a highly-committed, organized and analytical engineering professional, with exceptional written and oral communication skills to direct and provide engineering and construction management associated with the investigation, design, maintenance and construction of public improvement projects, including wastewater collection, stormwater, public buildings, streets and bike/pedestrian paths.

Conducts detailed analysis of all public infrastructure, determines condition, capacity, overall adequacy, and identifies short and long-term capital needs. Develops and advances capital projects through conceptual planning, public engagement, funding and project prioritization. Prepares RFPs and/or RFQs and related bid documents, reviews proposals for award recommendations and manages workflow and relationships with selected consultants and vendors.

Contract oversight for engineering and construction services associated with public improvement projects and studies. Makes field decisions relative to design changes, responsible for effective and efficient resolution of field problems or conflicts. Oversees permitting process for public improvement projects, adhering to local, state and federal guidelines, and right-of-way acquisition, ensuring all rights are properly obtained.  

Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, or a closely-related field, and six years of progressively responsible civil engineering and public works or utilities experience, including public interaction and engagement. Excellent technical skills, including MS Office Suite, GIS and other specialized software. VT Professional Engineer (PE) licensure and a valid driver’s license required.

Engineer II

$87,500 - $95,500 with an Excellent Benefits Package

The Department of Public Works is seeking a full-time, highly organized engineering professional, with exceptional attention-to-detail. The Public Works Engineer II applies advanced principles, practices, and civil engineering standards to support the maintenance, repair and construction of Town infrastructure. 

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, or a closely-related field and four years of experience, including civil engineering and maintaining public infrastructure. VT Professional Engineer (PE) licensure preferred, or Engineer-In-Training (EIT) with the ability to obtain a PE required.  Candidates with work experience designing and maintaining Water, Wastewater and Stormwater systems preferred.

Project Manager

$80,000 - $92,000 with an Excellent Benefits Package

The Town of Colchester is seeking a highly-organized Project Manager, with exceptional written and oral communication skills. Performs all phases of project management, including design, permitting, right-of-way acquisition, bidding and construction management. Projects include wastewater, stormwater, vehicles, public buildings, streets and bike/pedestrian paths.

Prepares bid documents, technical specifications and construction documents for public improvement projects. Manages engineering and design phases of projects, ensures integration of all project goals and objectives, and adherence to specifications and standards. Identifies and obtains all necessary permits, and confirms easement and right-of-way requirements are met. Conducts regular job meetings, coordinates management efforts with inspection services, and manages overall project schedule to ensure completion in accordance with contractual requirements.

Bachelor’s degree and four years of construction and project management experience or a combination of training, education and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge skills and abilities. Excellent technical skills, including MS Office Suite, GIS and other specialized software. Valid driver’s license required.

Maintenance I - Highway Worker

$24.51-$25.66/hr. DOE with an Excellent Benefits Package

Dept. of Public Works is seeking a motivated and collaborative person, with a safety mindset, to join its highway maintenance team. This full-time opportunity offers work/life balance, with a Monday thru Friday, 7AM – 3PM schedule. Opportunities for overtime. 

Provides routine maintenance and repairs to Town infrastructure, including buildings and grounds, streets and sidewalks, drainage systems and snow removal. Operation of light equipment and a variety of hand tools.   

Experience operating light equipment, buildings and grounds maintenance, construction, snow removal, or driving commercial trucks preferred, but will train the right person. PARKS & RECREATIONS DEPARTMENT

Afterschool Staff

The Colchester Parks & Recreation Department is seeking fun, responsible and caring Site Assistants to work in a creative, hands-on school-age environment for the A.C.E. After School Program for the 2025-2026 School Year.  This is a great opportunity to work with children in a dynamic, supportive, and fun environment. 

Program Staff: 

Part time hourly rate range $16.00 to $18.50/hr. depending on experience. Hours of work would be 2:45 - 6:00 p.m., depending on your availability.  We are hiring for Monday - Friday or partial weeks.  Must possesses high school diploma or higher and be over 18 years old to classify as program staff.

Program Aides: 

Part time hourly rate range $15.50 to $17.00/hr. depending on experience.  Hours of work would be 2:45 - 6:00 p.m., depending on your availability.  We are hiring for Monday - Friday or partial weeks. Must be at least 16 years of age to be classified as program aide.

Personal Trainer

The Town of Colchester is seeking motivated, energetic and experienced Personal Trainers for the Colchester Recreation Center. Various schedules available.

Personal trainers conduct individual and small group training sessions. Ability to demonstrate efficiency in planning, organizing and delivering exercise instruction. Prepares customized workout routines, conducts assessments, actively teaches and monitors exercise movements. Excellent customer service and communication skills, including the ability to positively interact with and motivate diverse groups of participants. Skilled Personal Trainers in all aspects of fitness and wellness are encouraged to apply. Must hold a current Personal Training Certification and have at least two years of experience of personal training within a fitness facility. First Aid & CPR with AED certification preferred.

Customer Service Supervisor

The Town of Colchester is seeking part-time Customer Service Supervisors for the Colchester Recreation Center. Various schedules available, consisting of 12 – 24 hours per week.

Provides oversight of Recreation Center Associates while on shift, monitors facility to ensure safety, cleanliness and proper use of equipment and provides counsel to visitors. Provides a welcoming and friendly presence for all visitors, assists with membership questions, program registration and payments. Provides facility tours, answers general questions and addresses customer concerns. Successful candidates will have an eye for detail and take initiative to ensure safety and cleanliness throughout the facility.

Excellent communication and customer service skills, at least two years of experience working in a supervisory customer service role required, experience within a fitness or recreation facility preferred. Must successfully pass a background check and possess a valid driver’s license and have a HS diploma or GED.
