Department Reduced Services

The Town Clerk’s Office is temporarily operating with reduced staff and other resources due to COVID-19, resulting in the reduction or suspension of some Town services. This is necessary due to the impact of Federal and State COVID-19 related work rules on service delivery, higher Town expenses related to COVID-19, and reductions in Town fee revenues due to the evolving public health emergency and related economic and regulatory climate. We thank you for your patience and understanding during this challenging time.

We are available for in person services from 7:30AM to noon. Masks are required.

We are available by phone and email in the afternoon from noon-4:30. Please call us at 802-264-5520 or email us TownClerk@colchestervt.gov so we can assist in providing our services to you remotely.

Changed Services: 

Land Records and Surveys research and copies may be obtained through www.uslandrecords.com or by appointment in the Town Clerk’s Office. Please call our at 264-5520 for an appointment. 

Vital Records (birth, death and marriage records) require an application and proof of identity. This process can be completed in person and by mail. Information about the process, including application for these records is available at: https://colchestervt.gov/332/Vital-Records. If you need assistance, please call us at 802-264-5520.

Dog License can be obtained by sending your dog’s rabies certificate by US Postal mail along with the $15 fee to us at 781 Blakely Rd., Colchester, VT 05446. You can also email the rabies certificate to TownClerk@colchestervt.gov and pay by credit/debit/echeck online at https://colchestervt.gov/323/Dog-Licensing. You can ask your veterinary offices to email our pooch’s rabies certificate directly to us. During this time of social isolation and our daily focus on more important matters, we will waive the late penalty of $5 until June 30th.

Property Tax information is available M-F, 7:30am – 4:30pm by telephone, 264-5520 or email, TownClerk@colchestervt.gov. Please pay by mail or use our outside secure drop box for payments. We are able to provide tax bill and payment reports via email or give information over the phone. There is additional information on our webpage at https://colchestervt.gov/329/Property-Taxes.

Marriage Licensing services are available during office hours, M-F, 7:30am - 12:00pm.

Green Mountain State Park Passes are available during office hours, M-F, 7:30am - 12:00pm.

Suspended Services: 

Issuance of Passports & Passport Photos by the Town are suspended.

Issuance of Dept. of Motor Vehicles registration renewals by the Town is suspended. Information is available at the VT Dept. of Motor Vehicles webpage https://dmv.vermont.gov/registrations/renew to renew by mail, phone, and online.
