Society Goals and Mission

The Colchester Historical Society leases a two story house built in 1899 from the Town of Colchester for the Society's activities. The house, located on the village green, was originally built as the parsonage for the next door Baptist Church which is now the White Meeting House for the town.

The society is an organization open to community members, neighbors, friends and visitors. We invite and welcome all. Come attend our meetings, meet new friends, and learn more about our town's rich history and traditions. We meet monthly from September through June - usually the second Monday at 7:00 PM at the Historical Society's house in the village. Each month we host a speaker or program of interest to the members and visitors. Our goal is to learn about and preserve Colchester's history through education and historical projects.

Several years ago the Society was awarded two substantial State grants for refurbishing the house. Repairs have been made to the slate roof, chimney, heating system, and exterior of the building. Our brick walks and landscaping are complete. Between 2006 and 2011 we renovated the first and second floors - constructing a new kitchen, installing a handicapped accessible bathroom, restoring the ceilings and woodwork, painting and papering the walls, and refinishing the floors. Our building is now handicapped accessible.
