First timers: get started here!

You'll need your Burnham Library card, a computer with internet access, and the instructions below to get started. If you run into trouble, give us a call at 879-7576 and we'll walk you through it.

Windows users: You'll first need to download the Media Center software. Download time takes 15 minutes to an hour, depending on your computer. Click here for a PDF with instructions on getting started.

Mac users: You can download a portion of the collection (MP3 titles only) using your internet browser (Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox). Click here for more information on how to get started.

System Requirements for Installing Media Center

Before you install NetLibrary Media Center, be sure that:

• You have your Burnham Library card number and
• Your computer meets the installation requirements described below.
  

Supported operating systems

Media Center is designed and supported for use with the following operating systems:

• Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit version), or
• Microsoft Windows Vista (32-bit or 64-bit version) with Service Pack 1 or later, or
• Microsoft Windows XP (32-bit version) with Service Pack 2 or later

Note: Do not use Media Center with other operating systems, including the 64-bit version of Windows XP, earlier Microsoft Windows operating systems, Apple Mac operating systems, or Linux.

Mac users can not use Media Center, but can still "manually download" a portion of the titles in the collection. Look for MP3 titles to download (WMA titles will not play on a Mac). Click here for complete instructions for Mac users.

Required software

• Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and
• Windows Media Player 11 (for Windows Vista or XP) or 12 (for Windows 7)

Your computer may need some updates before you are ready to install Media Center. The software will perform these updates automatically during the download process. If updates are need

Note for Windows 7 users: You have all the required software because it is included with Windows 7.

Note for Windows Vista users: You have Windows Media Player 11 because it is included with Windows Vista.

Note for iPod users: If you will transfer eAudiobooks in MP3 format to an iPod, you must also have iTunes installed on your computer.

Hardware requirements

• Processor: Required: A 233-megahertz (MHz) processor, such as an Intel Pentium II or Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) processor. Recommended: A 1.5-gigahertz (GHz) processor or faster.
• System memory (RAM): Required: 128 megabytes (MB). Recommended: 512 MB or higher.
• Free hard disk space: Required: 500 MB. Recommended: 60 gigabytes (GB).
• Internet connection: Required: Internet connection and 28.8 kilobits per second (Kbps) modem. Recommended: Active Broadband connection.
• Sound card: Required: 16-bit sound card. Recommended: 24-bit sound card.
• Monitor: Required/Recommended: Super VGA (1024 x 768) resolution or higher resolution.
• Video card: Required: Video card with 64 MB of RAM (video RAM or VRAM) and DirectX 9.0b. Recommended: Video card with 256 MB of RAM or higher and DirectX 9.0b or later.

User level requirements

You must have local administrator privileges to install Media Center.

Portable listening devices

If you want to listen to eAudiobooks on a portable listening device, you must have:

• A USB 1.1 (or later) port available on your computer and
• A compatible portable listening device

For Mac users

The video will refer to your "NetLibrary audio account." You can access your account by clicking on this link, selecting Burnham Library from the list, and logging in with your Burnham Library card.

Please note:

• Be sure to select only MP3 format files. WMA files will not work on a Mac.
• You will download books directly from the internet rather than downloading the NetLibrary MediaCenter software.
• Use Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox to download books. Books will not download with Safari.
  

For iPod users

Search for titles available in MP3 format. iPods can play MP3 files, but not WMA files. If you're using a Mac computer, refer to the instructions above.
