Programs will continue as planned in the Burnham Room. A selection of youth books will be made available upstairs. In addition, we can set aside specific titles for the next time you visit. Sign up for a Practice ACT Exam (Mar. 22 & 29)
Would you like to take to take a free, current, genuine, professionally-scored ACT, and then learn how to improve your score on the official test? Sign up for this two-part Princeton Review-sponsored program. The first session is a real ACT exam, which will be authentically scored, but not sent out to schools; it takes place on Saturday, Mar. 22, from 9 am-1 pm. At the second session (Saturday, Mar. 29, from 10 am-1 pm), you'll receive your scores back, and go over potential problem areas and strategies with a Princeton Review instructor. Both sessions are at Our Lady of Grace church, just down the street from the library. There is no charge - Register for both sessions by signing up here
Author S.S. Taylor Visits
On Wednesday, Mar. 26 at 6:30 pm, author S. S. Taylor will visit. She will talk about her middle-grade novels featuring three siblings who must follow a trail of maps left for them by their explorer father. Taylor will answer questions about writing, exploring, publishing (or anything else!) and read from the forthcoming Expeditioners novel, The Expeditioners and the Secret of King Triton's Lair which comes out in the Fall of 2014.
VT Health Connect Assistance
Do you have questions about Vermont Health Connect, and its new options for finding health insurance? Speak one-on-one with a trained Health Connect Navigator. We'll be scheduling appointments on Thursdays from 3-6 pm, on Feb. 27 through Mar. 13. To setup an appointment, call us at 264-5660, and chooses Option 3 and then Option 1 to speak to the front desk.
One-on-One Tutoring - Remaining Spots
Update - We currently have openings for tutoring on Mondays at 5-5:30 pm, and Wednesdays at 5-6 and 7-8 pm. Students from the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (Colchester campus) are again tutoring students in reading, math, and science at the library. The program is focused on grades 1-6, but tutoring is available in other grades for certain subjects. The sessions take place on Monday and Wednesday evenings, and Saturday afternoons, and there is no fee for the service. Outsiders Book Discussion
In this four part Vermont Humanities Council program, we'll be discussing groups who fell outside cultural norms. The discussions will be led by Helene Lang. This month, we'll meet on Monday, Mar. 10 at 6 pm; we will discuss Women of the Asylum: Voices from Behind the Walls by Jeffrey Geller and Maxine Harris. Copies of the book are available for checkout at the library!
Family Movie Night
The entire family can join us for a showing of the animated Disney film Frozen on Friday, Mar. 21 at 6 pm. Online registration at this link is appreciated.
